The Mal Thursday Show #1

The Mal Thursday Show

Host: MalThursday

Having just moved to Austin, Mal was going through his record collection and decided to put together a podcast. Except for a set of ‘66-era Texas garage, most of the records in this show were made in the last 15 years, in contrast to Florida Rocks Again!

By the way, the original Mal Thursday Show aired on WMUA in Amhesrt, MA, from 1987 to 1991, and had a brief revival on WFCF in St. Augustine in 2002. Enjoy!

Along with bands from the Lone Star State (Sons of Hercules, Ugly Beats), there are also representatives from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the Pacific Northwest, the U.K., and elsewhere.

Songs the Lyres Taught Us, Vol. 1

A collection of vintage ’60s nuggets covered by Boston’s longest-running garage band, the Lyres, led by Jeff “Monoman” Conolly. A couple of these date back to Jeff’s days in the legendary DMZ, but all of ‘em have been heard at one time or another at various Lyres shows dating back to 1979.

This episode was inspired by Crypt’s boss Lyres comp “The Early Years,” which if you ain’t got, you need to get.

Presented in mono, of course.

Also, if you’d like to hear a couple of vintage live Lyres concerts presented in their entirety in podcast form, click here and here!

Mystery Action #28

Mystery Action

Host: Charles Gaskins

You ever watch that movie Clue? It was based on the board game of the same name. You know what I’m talking about, dude? It had Lee Ving from the band Fear in it! It also had that chick from the Go-Go’s in it and she got shot. That dude from Home Alone 2 is in it and so is that guy from Mr. Mom and the lady who played the wife of the hardware store owner in Home Improvement and the chick from Speed 2: Cruise Control plays the maid. Well, it was a favorite of mine growing up and I still watch it every few weeks. To make a long story short… too late? Well, this episode was made in honor of that film.

Killed By Porn #24

Killed By Porn

Host: Duke Eastwood

Dear Listeners,

The other day, when I saw a lost girl wandering down the street wearing nothing but a towel, I knew how I was going to do Killed By Porn #24. All the songs too weird, obnoxious, or long to be in any other podcast are here. All cursed lo-fi, lower-fi, and garbage-fi tracks that wouldn’t fit in with anything else except each other… they’re all here. Just because these songs are the demented outcasts doesn’t mean you can’t dance to them; so dance muthafuckaz!

Regards,

Duke Eastwood

mainstreetmark back at the helm for this installment of the (soon to be) famous (not so much) GaragePunk Surfcast. Absolutely nothing, except that they’re all featured in the 9th episode of The Desperate Hour. Alex throws together a motley mix of garage, punk, garage punk, R&B, novelty tunes, and cheesy pop from MP3s, compilations and crusty old 45s for your listening displeasure.

What goes on in a large, sub-cellar room illuminated by flickering lanterns on a sultry summer night in St. Louie? Host: Alex Piandes

For the 8th episode of The Desperate Hour, Alex pays tribute to Joe Meek—even though he doesn’t actually articulate the tribute—and plays ’80s garage nuggets from The Tryfles, The Beguiled, The Lee Harvey Oswald Band and Lyres as well as the usual ’60s-centric slop and schlock.
